Back in Manchester England, they first used the name 'Barry and the Twins' and sang in cafes etc for nothing. They then changed it to 'The Rattlesnakes' which Barry later said in hindsight was a stupid name. They never performed professionally under this name.

When they moved to Australia in 1957 they firstly used 'The BG'S' after Barry Gibb, Barbara Gibb (Mother) and a friend Bill Gates all having the initials.

They then changed it to 'Barry Gibb and The Bee Gees' and finally just 'The Bee Gees'.

I hope that will clear up ann queries for you.
