Mark,

My mom is in her late 70s and she is still healthy and in great shape. It isn't terribly often that she spanks anymore, but is still very effective at it when she does. However, she normally leaves it to her grandchildren or even to her daughters (myself and 2 sisters), but she will still spank when she feels it is needed. And we don't argue with her about it!
