Subject: Safety procedures! ALL new riders should listen!

*She grins, bespeaking Kylith quietly. The great queen consents to come to the Barracks and soon flicks from between, her broad wings beating the air with ease. She backwings neatly, settling without raising a puff of dust. S'sha begins to speak.*
"First things first. About your flying straps! You've all learned how to put them on your dragons. Before every flight, no matter the length, you MUST check the straps for any weaknesses, stretchs, or breaks. If the metal looks stressed, take it in to be mended."
*She holds up her own harness, pointing to the usual places where the hide stretches beyond safe flying. Then she continues.*
"When taking off, always get a good grip on the straps and lean forward, so you won't get jerked back and bruise your dragon's neck ridges. When landing, be prepared for your dragon to backwing! Don't let yourself get flung about. When flying, always wear goggles. K'u, being so nice, will pass them out to everyone. Clean your goggles after every flight. Also, if you plan to go between (once you've learned how, that is) on any flight, dress in very warm fur-lined wherhide. During normal flight, a warm tunic will suffice."
*She pauses to take a breath and let the young riders around her make memory notes of what she was saying.*
"About between. I'll train you in this soon enough, but safety needs to be your concern at ALL times. In training, you'll be taught land marks to visualize. When in the blackness of between, do NOT panic and forget to concentrate on those images! Always keep yourself calm. If you panic, you may be lost between. More explicit directions will come while you're being trained."
*She surveys the weyrlings gathered in front of her and grins. She motions with one hand for K'u to hand out goggles to everyone. She glances around again.*
"Who has not had any training whatsoever on how to ride and fly?"

*She nods decisively. "Oh K'u...?" she calls in a sweet voice, a grin teasing her lips. "Take these nine and train them on the basics, would you? Wonderful," she continues before he could protest.
