Sure, it sounds stupid to buy drugs from on-line strangers. But that is because you did not pay attention to all the steps. So let us review again:
1. Send real money to on-line stranger.
2. Wait and see if you receive anything in return.
3. Did you use a credit card? Time to cancel it!.
4. If anything arrives, put some in your mouth.
5. It might be mostly harmless, you never know.

See, when you consider the entire transaction, it still helps if you are a paste-eater or at least are on drugs.
