Well, if you must know, Machiavelli wrote The Prince as a satire of the current state of Italian Politics. He had hoped that by presenting such an outlandish portrayal he would seek to correct the flaws in his society. As is generally true, society saw did not grasp the breath of the sarcasm and the narrow minded branded him as the original "chaos advocate" by those that are all to often to provide justice where it need not apply.
