My husband and I have been practicing DD since the beginning of our marriage. He broached the subject with me a few weeks before our wedding. At first, I thought he was kidding. When I realized he wasn't, I was taken aback. He persisted. As we discussed DD, my attitude and behavior, etc., I found myself becoming more introspective and honestly appraising my strengths and weaknesses. I knew that I acted immaturely at times and did and said things that would have gotten me spanked by my father just a couple years earlier. I don't know if it was logic or guilt that swayed me, probably a bit of both, but I agreed to give DD a try. Almost 50 years later, my husband still takes me to the proverbial woodshed when he decides I have earned a good old-fashioned whuppin'. Although I'm not spanked as much as I was as a young bride, I still need an attitude adjustment, a lesson in obedience, a reminder about manners and etiquette, or the like on occasion. A lot of things have changed over the years, but one thing has remained the same: It's still difficult for me to bare my bottom and get in position for what I know will be an incredibly painful comeuppance. Painful but necessary. And ultimately liberating.

While we didn't start DD for religious reasons, the practice is consistent with our religious beliefs.
