Subject: Thoughts/Questions from a newbie

I guess I should introduce myself so that I may avoid the "not a Siena fan" and "no clue about Siena basketball" responses. 1992 graduate, been going to games since the mid-80's, so I think I am qualified to have an opinion (whether it is right or wrong!).

My problem with this years version of the Siena Saints is the distinct and obvious lack of enthusiasm surrounding this program this season, which has led to virtually no home court advantage. The coach, players and fans are sleepwalking towards a disasterous finish. Why? Several reasons:
the style of offensive play is archaic. When was the last time Siena had a 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 fast break? It's hard for a crowd to get pumped up when Prosper takes 12 seconds every possesion to get the "offense" flowing.
Lack of student support does not help. Where are the kids? When I was in school, the students took up an entire side of the ARC, and then some. Now they can't fill the end zone floor seats. Sad. Lets face it, most of the excitement in a college arena comes from the students. Anyone watch the game on tv Monday? Every time they panned the crowd, all I saw were "blue hairs" with their arms folded in disgust.
Lanier is not a fiery leader (he threw a clipboard at Fairfield, wow, what intensity), they do not have an emotional leader on the court (Mitchell has showed some emotion lately, but thats it.) Marist and Rider showed you what a little emotion can do.

Hey, the team has exceeded my expectations, they could still turn it around, but something needs to be done to make this program and game days exciting again - it has become too sterile. It could be the coach, players, aging fan base, whatever, but the home court advantage is gone.
