Subject: My problems with the Pepsi
In reply to: MaacGruff 's message, "Funny, the entire team plays better on the road. Good point!" on 13:23:40 02/11/03 Tue

As wonderful as the Pepsi can be at times (last year's MAAC tournament, Xavier game), it doesn't do anything to create an exciting college basketball atmosphere. It's not the type of atmosphere that lends itself to the home team playing with great confidence because they know they've got the support of the fans behind them, or the type of place that a visiting team dreads coming into. I've seen a number of the reasons discussed on this board, and I agree that they are all factors (lack of consistent student support, lack of a band, not as exciting a brand of basketball being played as during the Hewitt era, and fans who have a "what are you going to do for me today" type of attitude). It is a frustrating place to watch, and (I would think) play a game because it could and should be a great advantage for Siena, but it ends up working against them quite often because it gets very quiet and the fans even turn on their team at some point if they're not having a great game. It often makes me sick to see college basketball games on TV where there is steady noise thoughout the game, and a roar when the home team scores. The Pepsi arena has all of the tools, but not unlike the team they house, they haven't put it all together. I would love to hear some of your suggestions for things that could be done to improve the college basketball atmosphere inside our Pepsi Arena (aside from the Saints winning every game they play).
