Subject: Reality check..

As hard as it is for a Stag fan to admit, especially one whose loyalty was formed in the glory years of back to back NCAA appearances in 86 and 87, your Siena program is still the benchmark in the MAAC. 6500 plus on a frigid Monday night in January--with the game on TV -that is amazing. I actually think Fairfield being the better team this year is good for your program. Siena can't have the best team every year--cmon guys your on your third coach in 4 years. But if the MAAC develops some "elite" members. that will only enhance the ability of other elite members to recruit on a consistent basis.
None of the top schools in the MAAC are leaving the conference anytime soon. As much as we all dream of our beloved ______ (fill in the blank) playing in the Big East, or A-10, or some pie in the sky newly created Catholic Conference it ain't happening anytime soon.

What would be great for the MAAC would be for the 4-6 elite programs to separate themselves from the rest. The A-10 has moved decidely in that direction, especially this year. Siena, with its attendance, Fairfield with its new Arena, and hopefully revived program, and IONA and Manahattan with their tradition and hopefully metropolitan media pull should be naturals for that role.

The goal has got to be to get to be the conference that gets at least one at large every year. You only get that by running the table against the also rans in the conference, having at least one victory over a sub 50 RPI team, and , in my opnion, having two or three other confernce elites who have accomplished the same and thus have provided the league with credibility.
