So the two guys basically have identical records, one in the MAAC and one in the A-10.

IMO, the columnist is way out of line. I’m not saying VBK will necessarily end up being the best choice, but based upon their prior records and their records in their current jobs, it is absolutely ridiculous to conclude, at this point, that VBK was the wrong choice.
