Subject: Who says they made the wrong hire?

Some putz columnist who's never coached a game a day in his life and likely never played organized basketball? Van Breda Kolff was a former SEC Coach of the Year who had won at three programs previously, including two tough jobs in Vanderbilt and Cornell. He took Pepperdine to the tournament more than once, and won a game in the tournament. Compare those credentials to someone with zero head coaching experience. There is no comparison. Choosing Van Breda Kolff was a slam dunk, a no-brainer. He never would have come to St. Bonaventure's in the first place if it weren't for family reasons. Otherwise, he likely would have moved up to the Pac-10 or some other higher level job.

Again, I would like to see Lanier work with what Van Breda Kolff has had to work with against his schedule. Bonaventure's is extremely thin up front and not an overwhelmingly talented team. Compare that to Siena, who has one of the more talented teams in the MAAC, and you realize just how difficult the Bonaventure's job is. Jim Baron won at Bonaventure's. It took him five or six years to get there, though. And now at Rhode Island he's working miracles, showing what a great coach he is. Siena is the best job in the MAAC, Bonaventure's is one of the toughest jobs in the A-10. This knucklehead columnist doesn't seem to realize that. I would like to see Van Breda Kolff and Lanier trade places and see how each would do at the other's program. Lanier has had a whole lot more to work with, considering the schedule they play.
