Subject: Football, hockey and other sports for Siena

It was interesting to see the posts below about the possibility of dropping the football program. Here are what I pose as three potential options. They're purely speculation, but I'm curious to hear what you guys think.

1. Give football the proper funding. It's no secret that Siena football can be a success with an on-campus field and a proper recruiting budget, etc. If the school commits to footbal in a major way (probably 2 million for a field and the increase in budget) Siena could be more of a success.

2. Drop football and add hockey. Logistically I'm not sure if it could work, but the MAAC hockey league gets and automatic berth in the NCAA regionals. That's the final 8!!! If we could get into the MAAC it would be huge to possibly go to the tourney. Bigger games could be played at the Pepsi (1 or 2 a year). I know hockey is expensive, but the rewards can be huge. The tough thing is recruiting against established programs Union and RPI for players.

3. My first choice would be an NCAA wrestling program. Last year it was evident with the championships in Albany that their is talent that comes out of the area. All you need is one individual to do well and your program can be on the map. Sue Iowa and Penn State are factories, but I watched a guy from Lehigh win the whole thing last year. It's inexpensive, and their is no major competition in the area for recruits.

What do you guys think?
