I think you pointed out the 2 main problems, with Knight’s plan

*What do you do with kids who turn pro early?

*How do you prevent schools from doing “social promotions” to keep from losing scholarships? Clearly many schools would hand out scholarships that

My suggestion would be to make all freshmen redshirt and then give them 4 years of eligibility after that. Kids with outstanding grades and SATs might be exempt from this.

This would do several things:

1) It would give all freshmen a year to get off to a good start academically, without having the pressures of playing D-1 hoops.

2) It would give them an extra year to complete their studies.

3) It would keep a lot of players who are only interested in the NBA and have no interest in an education from enrolling in college. They wouldn’t want to sit out a whole year.

I have no doubt this would raise graduation rates considerably.

It might also cut down on some of the outrageous hype high schoolers and freshmen get.
