Glad you are impressed old indian...I attend 7-10 womens games a year and let me tell you...I have yet to see the killer instinct come out...and it has shown itself unfortunately in several key games ...that i thought were winnable (Tulane-Vermont- St peters come to mind) and they just choked down the strech. Gunta and Leone were recruited by the fella who just left the program to go to Vermont. I have no idea how the other "International" girls landed at Siena..Gina has amassed an incredible record against the MAAC ..yet check the RPI's of the league..its a turkey shoot for anyone with their act together...The fella at St Peters has done that..Fairfield had their day..Loyola was "right there" until their coach went to the Pros..and along came Gina...posed a challenge and finally got there two years ago (NCAA) Siena's win this year was over a VASTLY different St joes team that they faced a year ago (with the emotional devestation of the MAAC tourney loss in their face) ...I usually have a smoke at 1/2 time at the ARC and have had several conversations with parents/friends from out of town of several of the players...They too are confused by some of the inconsistancies they see from Gina....you know last night Siena had an 11-2 lead and she subbed...when the starters got back on the floor the momentum had swung..yet Anderson (1-14 btw) never came out Michelle Blau got in...took and missed one shot...and got yanked...10 seconds later...I believe the girls are confused...miss the assistant who went to Vermont (the only man on the staff) and DO NOT GET a feeling that 'everything will be ok" from the Coach. At times I have seen her appear to be frozen with fear and insecision..while she has many, many wins..most of them have come against mediocre (at best) opponents...and the times they played their tails off against ranked or much higher opponents they have 1. either been nipped at the finish relinquishing a lead...or 2. been hammered.
The Capital District has produced numerous Div 1 players in the past few years...how many were successfully recruited to Siena? Curriculum may be an issue because Siena's program offerings are quite limited...that aside..imagine Jansone + Gottsteen + Conway + Basko + (point guard)...we'd be nationally ranked...I couldn't believe what i saw last night..maybe it's just a stinker..cause it sure stunk to high hell...My present feeling is that the program has hit a ceiling...some of the arrows are beginning to hit us in the derriere..and some serious work needs to be done to keep the program at level it has been accustomed to...I hope last night was an abberation...I'm not convinced that the gravey train is rolling on all cyllinders...we'll see..The games with Niagara and the return game at Manhattqan will tell something...Make no mistake...I WANT SIENA TO BE ONE OF THE VERY FEW TEAMS WITH BOTH MEN AND WOMEN REPRESENTED IN THE NCAA'S THIS YEAR...and it CAN happen...but not the way things went last night
