My friend, the employability of graduates from UPNG and Unitech can be established by tracing back into the historical development of PNG. Before independence, PNG needed to have indigenous PNGeans to assume the jobs that were being performed by the expats. UPNG was conceived and established as a response to this need. The country then evolved over time and realised the importance of manufacturing, industry etc..Unitech came into being. I find it distasteful to discuss or debate the issue about whether Unitech graduates are better qualified than UPNG and as such are more employable or the vice-versa. I am a BA holder from UPNG and I worked besides Accounting graduates from Unitech in PNGBC. There were not better than me as much as I was no better than them. At the end of day it, was the final output that mattered most to the managers. It is true that when specific expertise are on a high demand then one of the two Unis may be able to supply the labor market with more graduates than the other. For instance, during the mining boom in PNG, I remember many UNitech graduates getting employed faster then UPNG graduates. In any event, each individual has his/her own interests and strengths and therefore, it would be quite unrealistic to say that attending one of the two premier instututions is a licence to employment. Like I said, I am a general arts degree holder as you portray, but when it came to my area of speciality, I've made my presence felt as much as anyone. I have never for one minute regretted the four years I spent at UPNG.i.e its not about Unitech or UPNG, its about what you have and what you want you want to be.
