I just want to share you an experience before I can go further to my point.
November last year I was in Darwin for 5 weeks,what I noticed here was so different from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Here is a cultural flourishing tropical city-city were Aboriginals, Europeans and Asians all congregate in diversity. An Aboriginal told me that they don't have to work hard as PNGns to survive, they live on handouts from government so they can have all their time for pub and nightclubs.
I took time to absorbed his view and then I replied. My experience of most Europeans here in Australia was that they always put themselves above the indegeneous people because they came from a higher class of intelligent race.I mean 90% believe in evolution-yet many go to church still tied so much evolutionary origin of races .So that leave you and me at the bottom line. Who cares so much about Abos-whether they make it or become westernised or not is not important so long as they are shut out of the privellege of discovering their potentials.the government never provided a proper transitional institution for the natives where they could slowly learn, develop skills and adapt to the western culture. Instead you realise that the Europeans just forced them with inhuman brutality-many thousands of natives perished during the colonisation period ,history can justify this claim.
I told him, you know that the handouts concept is cheap and evil, it was purposely intended to lay you backward and you will never have a chance to advance in life-in other words purposely not to elevate you as a human being!
So what do I have for PNG education?
Dear friend my point here is that all of us came from the hand of a designer-Creator God. All created beings have intelligence. Make use of the potential that God has instilled in us. Develop your minds for good use and not feeding them with juncks of so called Westernisation, Modernisation and globalisation.(I mean take the good and discard that is harmful to our society and culture) These concepts are here to reduced us to nowhere if realised or not. They were invented to lay us backward. In other words they make us labourers and servants to those who are
behind this systems so that we can never rise up.
Simple truth is the education system that disqualifies almost 90% of the students so that they could never go further and later in years we are humbled to listened to their courageous endeavours conquering all odds.there are good western models that we can adapt but not all is culturally healthy. See for example Japan, they don't have to learn english to fly a plane or become computer expert!
PNG must bring the education system to peoples levels so they can learn to read and write in simple common language.They will be better educated,learn to live healthier lifestyles, develope simple appropriate technologies like mud brick to built durable houses, learn simple farming techniques to supply their basic needs, etc...
why are we neglecting our own very people at home? we have to go back-governement must come up with startegies to reach them.
If we don't every one will be wipe out if epidermic like AIDS or HIV enters their territory just as our friends in Africa. We can never escape this.lack of proper knowledge will result in clearing all the forest, hunting all the wildlife, added to already damaging policies from IMF which are more notorious in nature-a big game with the beaurocrats and policy makers and politicians.
Right I finish here to say we have brains and let us not be brainwashed as our ABO friends of Australia!!!!!
