There's no constituency for that kind of Republican Party, particularly with the downscale profile of today's GOP that's centered in places like Missouri and West Virginia. If they ever proceeded with "draconian cuts in social spending", Trump's base vote would return to the Democrats no matter how hysterical the Democrats have gotten on cultural issues. For example, if John McCain had put his thumbs up instead of down back in 2017 and dismantled Obamacare, the GOP would have been wiped out in 2018 and 2020 and would be looking at a Republican Congressional delegation as small as they had back in 2009 right now. Trumpism has given Republicans a template from which they can win the majority of elections in the coming generation, but they can only win if they cede that there's a bipartisan consensus on social spending that allows them to run up the score in trailer parks throughout Middle America.
