Subject: State smoking stats from a less known dating site

These aren't stats from the huge dating site I normally look at. This is from a smaller site called Connecting Singles. The sample sizes are good but I had to use their whole database of profiles (2014-2021) not just recent ones to get the high sample. The good news is smoking numbers are as high as the other site. This means women who create online dating profiles are much more likely to smoke than women in the general population.

% of women who smoke on Connecting Singles by state.

West Virginia 56.2
Arkansas 53.7
Missouri 53.1
Tennessee 52.8
Mississippi 52.7
North Dakota 52.4
Maine 52.1
South Dakota 51.9
Kentucky 51.8
Oklahoma 51.2
Montana 49.3
Indiana 48.4
Wyoming 47.4
Iowa 46.7
Nebraska 46.6
Idaho 46.3
Wisconsin 46.3
Ohio 46.1
Kansas 46.0
Louisiana 46.0
Delaware 44.9
Alabama 44.8
Michigan 44.0
Minnesota 44.0
South Carolina 43.0
New Mexico 42.9
Oregon 42.9
Colorado 42.8
Alaska 42.4
New Hampshire 42.4
Pennsylvania 42.3
North Carolina 40.9
Washington 39.3
Vermont 38.8
Texas 38.5
Illinois 38.4
Virginia 37.6
Rhode Island 37.5
Georgia 36.4
Arizona 35.1
Nevada 34.3
Connecticut 32.8
Florida 32.8
Massachusetts 32.4
Utah 32.4
Hawaii 30.5
Maryland 29.7
New Jersey 28.2
California 27.9
New York 27.2

No matter what survey West Virginia is a utopia for women smoking. Not that 51.8% is bad by any means but it was surprising to see several states beat Kentucky.

Of the top 10 states Maine was the biggest surprise. They are sometimes the top Northeastern state on the BRFSS but not so high to be grouped in with the smoking belt. Going by my more detailed info on the big dating site if you took out Portland, Kennebunkport and the rest of the southern portion of the state Maine would be a superstar in the female smoking rankings like we see here. What a difference compared ro the DC-Boston corridor...speaking of which

I have never seen New York at rock bottom before, even slightly lower than California. The BRFSS shows it almost as low. As much as we hear about smuggling the #1 affect of those outrageous cigarette taxes are low smoking rates.
