I'm Windom Earle and I represent the Concerned Citizens For Widescreen. We're launching a campaign against the current trend of releasing pan and scan only titles. I know this is a cause that you believe in, so I'd like to direct you to our website for more information along with giving you some information about us. www.zimf.com/ccfw

Concerned Citizens For Widescreen was founded three years ago as a subsidiary of WDBG Productions' TV Talk Show Reality 2000. It began as a public service announcement detailing the difference between widescreen and pan and scan that ran on the end of the show for several weeks. These days, DVD is in flux due to Blockbuster and Wal-Mart deciding that consumers really want pan and scan/full frame versions of films, despite the collectors demanding widescreen versions. Such is the curse of DVD going mainstream and getting a larger audience. Most of that audience doesn't understand what widescreen is, or why they should prefer it. They think they're losing part of the picture. When Zimf.com got involved, CCFW built a website and upped the stakes on the campaign. Now, after three years, with zimf.com and WDBG Productions behind it, we move to the next level. The result of this is CCFW's mission one, to increase awareness about the benefits of widescreen and the intentions of the filmmakers when they created it. Mission two came to our attention with the announcement of a full frame only release of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on DVD, a favorite of geeks everywhere. The geeks revolted and campaigned and, six months after the initial full frame release, a widescreen version of Willy Wonka came out. This shows the power of widescreen fans united in a common goal. CCFW will fight these battles, increase awarness and unite the DVD community to revolt against those who try to give us full frame product. It may sound overly melodramatic, but to a film student, pan and scan is a travesty. It'd be like taking Da Vinci's The Last Supper and cropping out the unimportant desciples.

Best
Windom Earle
