I was really curious about this movie because of Laura Linney's Oscar nomination. I watched the first part one night and the rest the following night (I work at a video store, so we have the screener already) Anyway, I hate when I can't get myself to stay up and watch the entire thing in one piece, because I tend to like a movie better when I watch it in one sitting. So maybe that had something to do with why this movie didn't win me over. This movie was definatly character driven, so it was a little refreshing, but just a bit too boring for me. I also kept trying to figure out where Linney's character was coming from. I thought she came off as a goody-too-shoes, but her actions speak otherwise. The little boy was pretty cute, I think a Culkin brother... The pot loving brother got on my nerves at times. Lots of scenes from inside the car in this movie? Why? Is this supposed to add to the humanity of the characters? Overall, the movie was OK. It seemed to be missing the foundation that links everything together, or maybe that is the point of the movie... Like we were just viewing a small part of some people's lives. This movie reminds me of the genre that Ulee's Gold falls into, whatever that genre may be, and I think Fonda got an Oscar nomination in that too.
