Author: Chavala•Sinouth, Sh'muel•Lirth, and Daven
Subject: Two dragons burst out of /between/. . .

Their riders carry a third man between them. Chavala shifts her brother's arm so that he might be more comfortable. But the apathetic shell hanging between the two hovering dragons is nothing like the man their brother once was. Now, Daven appears beaten down by life, with no more will to live than a rock. And indeed, his face seems set in stone, carved from granite; it no longer seems to belong to a living, breathing creature of the flesh. It hurts both his siblings to look on him, but Chavala most of all. She had always been close to him, despite his surly attitude and certain air of arrogance. She had loved him despite all this, and now look at him. The fine specimen of a man was now nothing more than a shell, a ghost living only because it has nothing better to do. Tears prick Chava's eyes every time she looks at him, but still she manages to keep her emotions in check, at least around Daven. She cannot let him see how upset she is. She is sure he would break apart if she let on just how awful she was feeling. Sh'muel casts a quick glance over at his sibling. He knows how badly she is taking Daven's dehumanization, and he has no idea how to help her. With a tacit nod of agreement, the two order their dragons to land. With a bit of grumbling, the green and bronze obey, settling on the grounds of the weyrling barracks. The two dismount, careful to support Daven, who, though conscious, is limp and unresponding. The two siblings manage to carry Daven to Sh'muel's weyr, laying him out on Lirth's couch. Though the bronze's reaction is rather grumpy, he agrees to the arrangement. And Chava decides to spend the night there as well. She and Sh'muel will take turns watching Daven, for they are afraid he may try to suicide. Sh'muel offers to take first watch, so Chava settles into bed and tries to sleep. Eventually, it is Sinouth's low crooning that is her lullaby. Sh'muel is just as exhausted as Chava, yet he cannot sleep. He must guard his brother's life. Daven's life is in his hands. He lets out a soft sigh and stares out at the stars that are slowly appearing over the rim of the Weyr Bowl. A small smile slips onto his face, and he indulges in that small pleasure before returning to his task.
