How would you handle the situation if you were the parents.

It is a school night, and your 15-year-old daughter is at a friend's and has a curfew of 9:30pm. Your 18-year-old was told to pick her sister up on the way home from work. She got off at 9pm and her curfew is midnight. A friend from work asks if she could take her home and she said yes. The 18-year-old goes and picks up her sister first and then takes her friend home which is a 20-minute drive in the other direction. They finally get home at 10:30 and their mom is upset that the 15-year-old is out past her curfew. She scolds her and tells her she is getting a spanking. The 15-year-old blames her sister on why she is late. The 18-year-old had not been spanked since she graduated high school.

How would you handle this situation?

Definitely not the 15 year old’s fault, if you ask me. She had no other means of getting home, so she’s in a bit of a hard spot. These days, a 15 year old probably should have a phone, though, and I’d expect an update. If no update was given, maybe some sort of punishment is in order.

It’s also not as though the 18 year old was out doing something bad. Taking her friend home is a nice thing to do. Where I come down on it is I’d expect an update for both. Especially if they’re an hour over. If I got a call or text that they’re okay, then no punishment. If I am calling for an update and there’s no answer, then we’re probably talking about something different.

Honestly, though, I cannot imagine spanking an 18 year old. I think of myself at 18 and I was taller than my dad. No way would I let him spank me. But maybe that’s my rebelliousness kicking in. I just can’t imagine ever submitting to it given that I can resist.
