I recently discovered an old country song sung by a female artist called "Daddy's Hand's". It's definitely from before my time, maybe the 80s? Anyway the lyrics definitely caught my attention as a portion of the song is about spanking.

"Daddy's hands were hard as steel when I'd done wrong. Daddy's hands weren't always gentle but I've come to understand there was always love in daddy's hands".

This is interesting to me because she looks back at her spankings as a positive..saying they were done out of love. Plus to have it included in a song means it's being romanticized to some degree. What I also liked was a whole song devoted to her father's hands, a body part that normally gets little attention. I will go as far as saying she was low key fetishsizing her dad's hands. What original subject matter for a song.

The timing of this is also interesting to me. Just a week ago or so I was in the car with my mom. At a stop light I saw her admiring her hand that was holding the steering wheel. I have seen her do this thousands of times, it's like part of her driving routine. She always has nice, long painted nails and she seems narcissistic about them like she's thinking look how hot my nails look. Although some of this might be more subconscious, I don't know.

Normally I don't think much of this but this time was different. I felt a sense of awe looking at her hand, it was so powerful. Not in pure strength like the country singers father, it was powerful in a lot of ways. Her hands have the power of sex appeal, not for me necessarily, I don't think of my mother that way but I could easily see other men finding my mom's hands sexy and attractive. Yet that wasn't the only way her hands are powerful. I looked at that spanking hand. That same hand that looks so feminine and lovely has the power to cause me much sting and much pain. That same hand has made me cry many, many times. Thinking about this I did truly feel a sense of awe looking at her hand.

Finally I will say I feel there is some connection between my mom's narcissism, for example looking and admiring her hands, and her willingness to spank. She is ego driven, not humble and her spankings seem so much an extension of this. Her spankings come from the place of "I'm right, your wrong and after this spanking you will have no doubt that's true".

To what extent is she right about that? After a spanking, are you convinced that you did something wrong and she was right to spank you for it?

It's interesting Michael. It takes awhile to sink on but it always does. Immediately after the spanking I feel like a victim. I feel like it was an uncalled for overreaction. But then as I lay in bed with my painful butt I reflect more on whatever angered my mom. I start seeing her point and tell myself I want to do better. This is pretty much the same pattern everytime.
