Chloe, your complaint that this sentence is unfair displays the same arrogance and lack of insight that brought you before this court in the first place. You were not the victim of injustice; you were the author of your own misfortune. You chose to drink to excess, you chose to defy lawful instructions, and you chose to spit on a police officer—an act of contempt that this court regards with utter disdain. Do not delude yourself into thinking this outcome is severe. Many before you have been sent directly to prison for far less, and it is only by the restraint of this court that you are spared the humiliation, confinement, and long-term consequences of a custodial sentence. Instead, you are receiving a canned bare bottom a punishment that is finite, lawful, and intended to correct your behaviour swiftly and decisively. Take no comfort in leniency mistaken for weakness: this court’s patience is not unlimited one more word out of you and I’ll add 3 months prison on top of you thrashed bottom do I make myself clear.

I was drunk, and not thinking straight, and I reacted badly out of fear hearing I’m going to be caned rather than any intent to disrespect anyone. I regret what I did, especially toward the officer, and I understand now that my actions were wrong.
