A quick comment from a pro-spanking Gen X grandma. This is very well written. What I like most was that it was spanking with love --essential!

One quibble I have is the eye rolling. Mine would have gotten an immediate spanking, or informed they were getting it as soon as we got home.

Hello. Me too when I rolled my eyes. My Mom and I immediately went to my bedroom!

Hi Angela,

I'm Gen X too, so we probably were exposed to some of the same kinds of things that influenced our ideas about spankings. I don't have kids, but in these little stories, I write it like I imagine I would have preferred to be spanked when I was young. I only got a handful of spankings that I remember, (I was generally very well-behaved), but my mom could be a bit volatile and unpredictable. We found out later that she had undiagnosed and untreated bipolar disorder, which explained A LOT. But this is sort of my idealized version of getting a spanking.

As for the eye-rolling, if you take another peek at that part of the story, Lucas was out of sight, at that point. He was by the front door, while mom was still collecting things from the car. If she had seen the eye-rolling, then this would have probably been a much shorter story, lol.

Hi Ginger,

Not only did I miss that the eye rolling was not seen by mom, I thought it happened at Aunt May's. Twenty lashes with a wet noodle for me!

I am sorry about you having grown up with a mother who suffered from those conditions. However, she must have been very good in many ways (including even some in her spankings) or you would not have the sense of spanking with love, which I believe is essential.

Keep sharing, you will help parents and kids!

Not the dreaded wet noodle! 😂

Thank you for your sympathy, and you are correct that she was a great mom in many ways. I'd say she was pretty awesome in most ways, in fact. I think she did the best she could under very difficult circumstances. My bio-dad is a real asshat, and he really didn't help matters. I just had to grow up fast, and we all have issues from when we were young that have shaped who we are as adults. Did you watch Buffy? I think Cordelia may have had it right when she asked Buffy "What is your childhood trauma?!" We all have some, lol.

As for my view of what a spanking should be, you're probably right that I must have gotten that from her. I do remember being cuddled and comforted afterwards, which I think is vital. Also, I remember a couple not so great experiences (getting spanked in public for something I didn't do, getting spanked in anger, with no aftercare and frosty feelings that lasted for several days). Those were things that I knew I would very definitely avoid if I was ever in the position to give a spanking. I never have given one, and I'm doubting I will at this point. Well, I might be lucky enough to get a girlfriend who likes being naughty, but that's an altogether different kind of spanking!

Thanks again for your kind words.

Ginger
