The clock oscillator controls the bus speed, and the CPU derives its clock from this same circuitry. By increasing the bus speed, you increase the CPU speed by the same amount.

Clock multipliers didn't become a factor until the PowerPC line; all 68K Macs use a crystal or crystal oscillator and derive both bus and CPU clocks from it.
