Thanks for the advice (both of you). Next time I'll try tinning the wires, and using some flux (note to self: buy flux.).

What I can't understand is _why this upgrade won't work_. Really, it's not that difficult a thing to do, I've checked it visually again and again as well as messing around with a continuity tester, looked at the joints at 20x magnification with a steromicroscope to check for shorts, not to mention doing the whole bloody thing twice and still nothing.

The a/b is fine. I took it back to it's original form and it worked. The 575 l/b is fine. I installed it into the CC once I reversed the mods and I got a screen image and Happy Mac (than that message about an incorrect system version etc.)
I don't know, the only thing that strikes me as strange is that when the 575 board is installed, the CRT doesn't seem to power up until a secind or so after the chime, and when this happend the fan spins down momentarily. This happens with or without the mod, though with the mod, the screen remains dead.

I'll take one last shot at it this weekend.
