Thanks for your reply Scott. Here's an update:

Changing the lights had no effect.

The control panel simply says "640x480" but with no "60 hz" part.

This one is a little different than the other Smith PCs. It has no TV tuner or AV system in it, but, seemingly as a consolation prize, it is supposed to be upgradeable to 128mb of RAM. I quote Christopher Smith: "This unit can be upgraded to 128mb by using (2) 64mb 72-pin simms." This upgrade option why I bought this one rather than one of his other ones with the AV system.

I ordered the two 72-pin simms from Other World Computing and read both of them together as 32mb! (Although I have upgraded the machine to 48mb of RAM with a couple of simms I had around the house from an older mac.)

So sorry to mix problems together-- I really just don't want my screen to flicker-- but does anyone know which 64mb simms I should get?
