Hey Graeme, thank you for prompting this and posting it. I think the AI has done a really great job. It seems to have been designed to be good at posting high school level persuasive essays. Carefully structured etc.

ofc I wonder where it gets its ideas from. Maybe letters pages in New Zealand newspapers? Maybe from corpun.com? But somehow it seems more thoughtful and cleverer than that. So it's plagiarising some really deep thoughtful essays that are somewhere on the internet or in books?

One contradiction. Is that lots and lots of teachers in places like the USA and the UK (and probably New Zealand too) say things about how kids are less well behaved now than they used to be. (Just like the AI mentions.) But also, teachers have been saying that since the 1970s and even before that I think? And also, most modern teachers (not including some on this forum lol) aren't in favour of corporal punishment in schools anyway.

I also noticed that the AI uses the idea of "last resort" and says that caning should be "carefully regulated and monitored". This is valid AI-speak because it's just repeating things that some teachers and schools said at the end of last century about caning only being a last resort. But actually what was really happening (apparently) is that it was almost the first resort!

For example, if something is the automatic punishment for a first offence of passing a note, then it's obvs not being used as a last resort.

And of course, passing a note does not really threaten the "security" of the "learning environment".

So does AI just spew out words and phrases that it thinks are relevant? mayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyybe.... but it's definitely very good at it :)
