Date Posted: 17:13:09 01/27/26 Tue warning: this movie is rated 15 by the BBFC for strong language and violence. Please don't watch the movie if you're younger than that. You're not missing much (in my opinion). Ask me questions about the movie if you want! Between 15 and 25 minutes into the movie ("Defiance"), Daniel Craig's character (Tuvia Bielski) argues briefly with his brother about which of the weaker townsfolk can be safely brought with them if they all have to hide in the forest. Both of these Bielski brothers are adults. They discuss the pros and cons of bringing some disabled people, or some older people, including the schoolteacher. Tuvia says "what's the problem, you think he's going to spank you if you get your sums wrong?" The historical background: "Tuvia Bielski, Alexander Zeisal Bielski, Aharon Bielski, and Asael Bielski, were Jewish brothers who established a large partisan camp in the forests of Belarus during World War 2, resisted Nazi occupation of the country, and saved 1,200 Jews from the Nazis." (according to Wikipedia, which seems inconsistent on this topic right now) Note: this movie is controversial in several countries, and so are the Bielski brothers. Another movie with a not-really-spanking in it is Escape from Sobibor. Rated 15 by the BBFC for strong violence and disturbing images. At one point in the movie a German officer is in charge of a two teenage Jewish boys and demonstrates to them how his whip can cause huge damage. He then orders the older boy (aged about 17) to bend over. The older boy obeys, and receives one whack while his younger brother (aged about 14) watches. These movies were likely screened to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day (27th January). Unfortunately, we were unable to have a relevant forum pic on this occasion.
