Hi Kim, this is really interesting and I think it's something slightly unique about your psychology. Altho, scare stories about AI have been around ever since the Terminator movies and maybe before, so I guess it's not a new thing either. Maybe "fear of the unknown" is part of it? I think both you and I were fascinated by spankings before we ever got them. And then also scared of them. And then found them beneficial once we got them? (Although you now think they're not beneficial instead? Or maybe just not beneficial for some other kids, but were better than mute school for you?) > For some reason, I have a hard time believing Dad and > other professionals in the field that this cannot > happen, because AI is unable to come up with anything > new and of its own. . . . I hope I am wrong! This is a hotly debated topic and I don't really have a clear view of it yet. One view is that "only humans are creative and AI can't ever be creative, so AI art is worthless and involves no talent". Another view is that AI is capable of combining and enhancing human creativity in ways that is indistinguishable from "creativity" to humans.... One thing that just occurred to me. In fields like generated pics ("artwork"), or generated music, where I have no talent, I have no problem with people using AI to generate those things. But in fields like written language, or even spoken language, where I think I have a little talent, I really hate people using AI to spam the internet with artificially generated text. An exception would be cases where we are learning something or seeing something new (or that we hadn't thought of) generated by the AI, *and* where we know that the AI is responsible for the content. For example Graeme's questions to AI about why some spanking parents would do certain things certain ways. These questions and responses are good and really interesting. > I have heard from my psychologist Mum that this is how > human nature works: even though I was guilty of both > mute school and spanking, I had an innate urge to find > someone to blame outside of myself so that the guilt > wouldn't damage my own mental health. > > Based on the above, I'm now one of those who opposes > spanking: it only arouses anger, which is channeled > into its own routes and causes anger and bitterness > where ever it happens. Do you feel the same way about mute school, though? And also, your Mum as a psychologist knew these things about spanking from her training and expertise. But if so, why did she not know the same things about mute school, or why did she think it was a good idea? Another complicated question. I might be misremembering this, but I think you once said that it was your social worker (or something like that?) who recommended to your Mum that spankings might be a better way?
