My high school had something similar. It was called isolation. There were these cubicle desks, a desk with three walls built around it. I guess when sitting I think you wouldn't see anything but the wall. The room did have windows. Teacher aides generally supervised isolation. Students had interval and lunch break at a separate time to the rest of the school.
