It's interesting that you mention getting spanked with the wooden spoon as a younger boy, but only getting hand spankings when older.

I got hand spankings at 11 or 12, but my stepdad started using the small paddle on me when I was 12 or 13, and then the belt not long after that. And Mum started spanking me with the hairbrush around the same time. (I've also been spanked with other things including spoons lol)

Do you have any ideas on why your parents did it that way round? Maybe they suddenly decided that spoon spankings were too harsh? So they tried spanking without the spoon and decided that hand spankings were effective enough so nothing else was needed?

I can imagine that for some 14 year old boys a hand spanking might not be much of a deterrent.

And equally for some very young kids a big spoon spanking would leave them absolutely howling lol
