From what he has said, like you, Lucas is now eighteen years of age. An adult in the eyes of the law.

It seems to me that if he is still being punished in this way after all his exam success and mental maturing perhaps something is amiss in his home.

He doesn't appear to get up to half the shenanigans that you have described AND his stepbrother was excused punishment (and allowed to administer it) from sixteen.

But maybe Lucas actually enjoys the regime and will continue allowing others to beat him all the way through his adult life as a result of the conditioning he has received during his extended childhood.
