My older daughter (16, I'll call Sara as it rhymes) is a childrens' swim instructor. Their classes are in a separate indoor pool room from the lap pools so the noise is contained, with the locker rooms and showers in between.

After dropping off Sara, while driving I received a very concerning phone call about her. I U-turned and met her at the pool just before class was to begin. We had some words in the corner. I was firm and she began to get snotty. I gave some leeway given she was at work but eventually I had enough of her language. I told her "okay then, we'll talk about this in a minute" and went to the changing room.

There's always a spare bar of soap and cloth rag in my purse, which I prepared for use. Another lady who was washing her hands looked a little confused since each sink had a dispenser. Back in the pool area, Sara had already gotten her feet wet when I grabbed her wrist and we marched back into the locker room. I told the kids "class, Miss Sara and I are having a meeting". A mother who I'm familiar with kept an eye on them.

We stopped baside the sinks and I told her to face me and pull down her shoulder straps. She protested like she didn't know what was in store. I grabbed her by the chin: "young lady if I have to, you will be staying home for a week!" inferring her bottom would receive a sound paddling. So she peeled down her red lifeguard swimsuit, just as a girl about 10 walked in from behind.
"Now open your mouth"
"No please mom! you can't do this here!"
"Any more backtalk and you're getting another today"
I shoved the rag in, turned her to face the mirror, and went to work soaping up her mouth. Since she was now on the clock, we went through the routine at a fast pace. When in the mirror she spotted two older women glancing over and chatting by the lockers, one with a smirk, she started crying.

As we initiated the cleaning phase, a little girl approached:
"Hey Miss Sara's mommy, what are you doing?"
"Miss Sara has a dirty mouth and needs it washed"
"Oooh why are her boobies out?"
"So her suit doesn't get soapy dear"
(when soap dripped I wiped them with a towel)
Woman with hands on hips, cracking a smile:
"...kids these days, no modesty"
Sara continued sobbing.

I had her open wide and take a good look in the mirror before spitting out the soap. The same lady kindly reminded us that class was waiting and offered to wipe the counter for us with a towel. I thanked her and marched to the showers. We went to the handicapped spot, as it has a removable showerhead, and a folding bench which Sara could bend over and support herself. That way I could rinse off any soap from her upper body and mouth without getting it on her suit which I adjusted a bit. While I gave her a succinct lecture she was still crying in embarrassment.

We stopped by the mirror so Sara and the other woman could see just how clean her mouth was. Another woman chuckled and quipped how obedient Sara had become. While she spit out some more and wiped her eyes, I directed the girls in the room back to the pool.

I took her by the wrist out the door at a normal pace, myself calm and a little wet, Miss Sara almost recomposed but still sniffling. As we walked around the pool, you could feel as though all eyes were on us. Some boys about 9-10 were mumbling and a coworker, a young man around my daughter's age, was trying to appear distracted. When we reached the railing and steps, she didn't get in, instead wiped her eyes. One of the girls asked if she was ok. Sara stood up straight and tall like a big girl, not one who got a ferocious talking-to, and took a few steps. I blew her whistle which I had in hand.
"Line up kids, Miss Sara's class has started!"
One of the older woman from the changing room had just stepped in, shook her head, and chuckled again.

I departed feeling quite satisfied that day. In fact, I would consider it the most effective mouth soaping I've given.
