Correct. When I was younger I took spankings at face value. That it was all about what the child did to deserve the spanking. I never considered the motivations of the spankers or that they might get pleasure or arousal out of spanking. From everything I have learned and I observed I now think spankings have more to do with the motivations and personality type of the spanker than the behavior of the spankee. Although of course if the spankee does misbehave, which all children do at some time or another, they are stronger a spanking if they have a spanking parent so behavior still does play a role.

One reason I came to this conclusion is that I thought about how I was always a nice, well behaved kid but I got spanked often while many of my friends and schoolmates who were much worse behaved than me never got spanked. Why? Because it comes down to the parent or other authority figure. I just happened to be born to a mother who believes in spanking, has a sadistic side and gets pleasure (probably including sexual) from spanking. So it was pre determined that my fate was to get spankings. Although I did think of an alternative view. Perhaps I am so nice and well behaved because I do have a strict disciplinarian as a mother. She definitely taught me to be respectful of authority and respectful in general.
