Well Rosie, it wasn’t good on a few levels. It showed disrespect to the Church, to the Pastor, to the entire congregation. It showed that you thought your phone was more important and interesting than paying attention to the Church service.

I think I would have done exactly as the Pastor did, and that was to simply have a quiet word to your hosts, but perhaps what your host dad should have done would be to quietly ask the Pastor if he would kindly deal with the matter, and consider if he would like to punish you. The Pastor administering a spanking to you in these circumstances would probably be the most appropriate way to handle the matter.
If you showed remorse then a hand-spanking might seem appropriate, but if you continued to be disrespectful then I would think a more painful spanking would be warranted.
