My maternal grandmother lived next door and pretty much had parental authority over me. I got some serious spankings from her. I've covered some of those in other posts.

I don't think my parents would have thought anything if my mom's sister had given me a real whooping. Her two daughters were near my age and we were together all the time. I know she gave me some pops when we were getting out of hand, but I don't think I ever got a formal spanking from her.

Another aunt (married to my mom's brother) claims she spanked me in the bathroom at a grocery store one time but I do not remember it.

That aunt's daughter is a full ten years older than me. Whenever the adults had a function they all went to, she was the de facto babysitter. I also am certain she was volun-told to watch us with no financial compensation. I remember my parents telling her to spank me if I did anything wrong. Looking back, I think she took any unsupervised opportunity she found to get on the phone with whatever boyfriend she had at the time. I probably could have robbed a bank and she wouldn't have noticed.
