Spanking was rather common during my growing up years. My parents spanked as did my aunts and uncles and even grandparents. If an adult in the family was in charge of you and you misbehaved, you were likely to end up over someone's lap with your bare bottom being pummelled. I remember little variation to the process. You could also get spanked at school if you misbehaved. In the lower grades, you could end up over a knee. In the older grades, you were bending for the paddle.
