I'm sorry folks. I just went back and I read this and I realized the last paragraph didn't make much sense. I have talked about this particular incident a couple of times, but this is the first time I've gone into so much detail. Honestly, Even though it happened thirty years ago, I got really shaken up and was crying when I started going into the details and my last paragraph made very little sense.

So, I've come back to correct the last paragraph...

We ended up skipping Church the next morning because it was such an exhausting night for all of us. It was also a long time before I saw or talked to my Granny, and Momma never left us alone with her again. It was weeks before Momma even talked to her on the phone and months before we saw her again. I was happy to have never been left alone with her because honestly, after the switching she game me and then this incident, I was terrified of her. It took some time for me to get to the point where I wouldn't start crying whenever we would talk about seeing her. Even when we would go see her or she would visit, My Brother, Sister and I were never left alone with her again.

I have taken the kids to visit her but I never let her out of my sight when the kids are around her. She's my Granny and I love her in spite of what happened, but I will NEVER trust her. A couple of years ago, after coming back from one of those visits, my daughter, who was nine at the time, came into the living room, cuddled up on my lap and said, "Momma, I love Great Granny but sometimes, she scares me." I got a little choked up, then hugged and kissed her and said, "She scares me sometimes too Baby."

Bruises and welts go away and are soon forgotten, Even physical scars will eventually fade, but emotional scars last a lifetime.
