I'm glad that you have a good relationship with them. Family is important. I wish I had realized that when I was a boy.

I was told by someone, once, that it's not that big of a deal... that every kid says something like that at least once. That said I couldn't help but notice that my boy's never said that or the other phrase kids in their position are often credited for: "You can't tell me what to do, you're not my father!"

(Well, I actually did get the "You can't tell me what to do" part. But pointing out of how I'm not biologically their father... they never went there.)
