If I got away with something then was mostly pretty pleased with that. There is one time that comes to memory when I did end up feeling really guilty.

I was in a school assembly when I was 11 or 12 and a group of us were messing round. At the end when the assembly was dismissed, the head started calling out the names of our group to stay behind but for some reason my name didn't get called, so I just left as if I hadn't been involved in it.

The group all got a detention and a letter home to parents. Walking to school the next day with my friend, who's name had got called, he told me that he'd got the belt off his dad because of the letter. Now, I wouldn't have got the belt, but I defintely would have been spanked.

This really bothered me as I didn't know how I had got away with it and I felt guilty that I hadn't been punished like my friends had. In my head I convinced myself that I should have my bottom smacked for what I did. Although I tried, I didn't build up the courage to tell my mum or dad what had happened. I did consider self spanking but didn't go through with it. I even considered asking my gran for a spanking, even though she had never spanked me or ever threatened to.

I think after maybe a week or so, the guilt started to ease and faded away. Still, I guess it's in there somewhere for me to remember it about 40 years after it happened.
