There wasnt a clear rule about grades that had to be achieved, but if the report card included bad behaviour or poor efforts in schoolwork that was asking for trouble.

I got smacked for a couple bad reports,but not too many times.

On one report my middle brother had a number of bad behaviour reports and copped a big hiding for it. Declan was made to bend over the back of a dining chair (in normal fasion for us boys) and Dad literally read out each negative comment from different teachers, whacking Declan several times as separate punishment for each one.

Man, Declan was one sore, sorry teen
