There is probably a difference between boys and girls here. Being summoned to the office over the speaker system as a boy brought a little bit of cred with it. You just had to make sure that you walked back into the classroom without showing ill effects. On the other hand, in high school I discovered the hard way that some teachers would send you to get swats from the science teacher after school. She took some real pride in her swats and gave more than you got in the office. I always had water in my eyes when she finished with me. She may have enjoyed giving swats more than she should have. I remember her asking about them the day after she gave them to me. I got one set from her because I acted up in her class and another two sets the following year because I acted up in another teacher's class.
