This is an interesting discussion. Personally, I don't think schools should paddle anymore because I don't think there is enough parental support for it and you can't really do it. It's hard for a kid to go into class with tears in their eyes knowing they will be teased about it. On the other hand, when a kid came back from the office and you could see them sitting down gingerly or see some water in the eyes, it made you think twice before doing whatever got the kid sent to the office. It seems a little harsh to the kid that gets to be the example but, by breaking the rule, they volunteered to be the example. I guess my feeling is that, if the school is going to paddle, they should make it unpleasant enough so that both the recipient and the other kids who see the results decide that it was not worth breaking the rules.
