My school years were 1997-2010. As you can probably guess, I never experienced the paddle at school. Even if it was in use, I highly doubt my mom would have signed the permission form as she had a bad experience with a paddling when she was a freshman in high school.

I do admit that school-style paddlings have always been a fantasy of mine. I’m not sure why, I guess there’s something about the formality of it all.

My grandmother was an elementary school teacher from the late 40s to the late 80s. I’ve often wondered how many children she paddled over the years. When she retired, she brought her paddle and put it on a side table in the playroom at her house. She might have to put it there to serve as a deterrent, but she never used that paddle on me. I remember, as a kid, wondering what the paddle would feel like. I don’t remember ever being afraid of her using it, it was simply curiosity. I was never brave enough to ask her!
