I didn't get spanked by a tutor, but I have a spanking related memory of one.

When I was 12/13 my parents hired a girl from a nearby street as a math tutor. She wasn't that much older, 15, maybe 16, but earning her own money like that seemed almost like a grown-up from my point of view.

The first test after I started getting lessons from her was as bad as always. She was disappointed and said that if she came home with grades like that she wouldn't sit for a week. I told her that I was lucky because my parents didn't spank for poor grades. She looked at me as though she didn't think I was lucky at all. I asked her if she actually had come home with such a poor test. She hesitated, then just said: "not in mathematics"

We didn't talk about spanking again, but the idea that this capable, confident almost-grown-up had been spanked hard for nothing worse than a poor test left a deep impression. I kind of admired her for mentioning it. I did eventually get better at math, motivated in part by a desire to please her.
