Sonya, fortunately, as bad as the hangover and your Dad's nasty tasting drink was, you learned without any tragic consequences. Parents usually do not approve but, as you say, most teenagers have to try alcohol as part of growing up.

I also was just smart enough not to drink and drive. I don't remember experiencing any really bad hangovers, even the one time I passed out from drinking way too much. I'm lucky that I never liked the effect of alcohol even in moderation, so once I was past the age of peer pressure, it was an easy decision to not drink. However, before that age, I was almost a slave to peer pressure, and hanging around rebellious types, I got into all kinds of things. There were no more spankings after a certain age. I was free to make a lot of mistakes, some costly, but lucky enough that none came with tragic consequences.

That was my original interest here. For those like me who got caught up in some delinquent activities, I wonder if parental spanking ever played a role in influencing or correcting that kind of behavior. If you don't mind me asking, do you feel your discipline at home kept you out of serious trouble, or were you never tempted to be involved in anything that bad, or to ever hang around with the wrong crowd?
