Hi all, Rick here.

Reading through certainly brings back a lot of memories. I was researching to see how common CP still was as my oldest is having some issues with my 9 year old grandson and is kicking around the idea. We were spanking parents, but certainly toned it down from the way it was for us growing up - always in private, only as a last resort and using just our hands. Our 3 probably each got around 10 their whole lives while, for me, I’m sure there were times I got 10 in a month.

Growing up in small town Kansas in the 1980s, spanking was the norm for everyone. We had a big family, I have 2 brothers and 3 sisters, my dad is one of 4, my mom 1 of 5. The whole family all lived within probably an hour of one another, my dad and his brothers owned a contracting business. Me, my siblings and our cousins grew up to together, a lot do us went the same schools, played sports together, vacationed together, and yup, got our butts whipped something fierce. Privacy was not a concern at any age, if a spanking was due someone it was given, right then and there and virtually any adult, not just family, was not only allowed to spank an errant young man or woman but was basically expected to.

Was how we were treated harsh? Yep. Was it over the top? Probably. Definitely by the opinion of some and by standards today. But did any of us any feel unloved or abused? Nope. It was a way of life back. Certainly looks like we were not alone.
