So true pagandad. Like you I'm getting on a bit as well! I grew up in the 50s and 60s when spanking was so common and completely the norm. I don't think I knew of any kid who did not at some time get spanked. Both younger kids and teenagers. All of my babysitters, always teenage girls, were still subject to spankings. Mom would when 'interviewing' them make clear that they had both her and her husbands - my Dad - full permission to spank me should the need arise. She would then casually ask them whether they got spanked. They always answered that they were telling her how they were spanked and more often than not would fully describe their punishments. Mom never had to press them on the details and suffice to say they virtually all received what one might describe as old--fashioned, formal, over the knee, bare-bottom spankings. That's just how it was back then. As you pointed out these teenage girls, for the most part, relished the opportunity to be on the other side of a spanking dishing one out instead of being given one. I got spanked by everyone of them at one time or another. Most of the spankings were well deserved though a few of the babysitters looked for the slightest excuse to tan my behind! The spankings were always bare bottom ones spankings in those days invariably were. And of course a spanking from a sitter always resulted in a further spanking from Mom or Dad when they got home! In 50s and 60s America that is how it was! Certainly in my experience anyway!
